Easy way to clear or wipe browsing history from chrome and edge?

Hi everyone, I need to completely clear my browsing history from both Google Chrome and Edge, but I'm not super tech-savvy with the settings. I'm hoping for the simplest, most straightforward method like a one-click solution to let me clear or wipe browsing history from Chrome and Edge on my Windows PC. Any tips or step-by-step instructions would be hugely appreciated!

Thanks in advance! I've been googling but keep finding outdated guides. Just want to make sure I'm doing it right and not missing anything.

Bonus points if you know how to auto-delete history on close for both browsers too.

P.S. It is a Windows 10 PC.

Some files or folders require administrative privileges to delete. Run command-line tools or scripts as an administrator to avoid permission errorsif you want to wipe browsing history.

Using a Command-Line "Nuclear Option" to clear browsing history on a Windows computer refers to executing powerful, often scripted commands that can delete browser data at a system level. This method can be very effective but also risky if not done carefully, as it may delete more than intended or disrupt browser functionality.

    How It Works:

    1. Direct file deletion: Browsers store history and cache in specific folders on your system. Using command-line tools like del, rd, or PowerShell scripts, you can clear browsing history.

    2. Registry cleaning: Some aspects of browser configuration or history are stored in the Windows Registry, which can also be edited or reset via command-line tools or scripts.

    3. Automated scripts: Creating batch files or PowerShell scripts that target all relevant locations for multiple browsers for a comprehensive wipe.

    Example Approach:

Deleting browser cache and history folders:

    rd /s /q "%LocalAppData%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\History"

    rd /s /q "%LocalAppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile>\storage"

    Clearing temporary files:

    del /q /f /s %TEMP%\*

Your browsing history is a detailed log stored by your web browser, such as Edge and Chrome, that records the websites and pages you have visited over time. It typically includes the URLs, page titles, and the dates and times of your visits. This data is used primarily to improve your experience by allowing features like auto-complete in the address bar and providing a convenient list of recently viewed sites for easy return access.

There are several compelling reasons to regularly wipe your browsing history. First, it protects your privacy, especially on shared or public computers, by preventing others from seeing your online activity. Second, clearing history can help troubleshoot browser problems, fix loading errors, and remove outdated cached files that may slow down your browsing speed.

You can wipe browsing history in Microsoft Edge through a straightforward process in the settings menu.

First, open Edge and click the three horizontal dots (Settings and more) in the top-right corner.

Select Settings, then navigate to Privacy, search, and services in the left-hand menu.

Under the Clear browsing data section, click Choose what to clear.

A pop-up will appear where you can select a Time range and ensure Browsing history is checked

Finally, click the Clear now button to permanently remove the selected history from your device.

For a quicker method to clear browsing history, you can also use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Delete while Edge is open to open the "Clear browsing data" pop-up directly. This action will instantly delete your logged web activity, helping to maintain privacy, free up space, and resolve minor browser issues.
