Dual monitor not detected

i bought a new HP laptop to work from home.  it has 1 HDMI but i need dual monitors.  I bought a Kapok extender and connected the second monitor HDMI and it is saying monitor not detected.  i checked for driver updates, and it is current.  Any suggestions?  i start work on Tuesday and need it working by then.
