Can I still transfer data from Android to iPhone after setup without reset?
I already finished setting up my Samsung Galaxy S23 and recently got an iPhone 17 Pro Max. The problem is, I didn't use the "Move to iOS" option during the initial setup, and now all my data (photos, contacts, messages, etc.) is still on my Android phone. I really don't want to reset the iPhone just to transfer everything again.
Is there any way to transfer data from Android to iPhone after setup without wiping the iPhone? Maybe using apps, cloud services, or a computer? I'm especially concerned about keeping things simple and not losing any existing data on the iPhone.
Would appreciate any tips or real-world suggestions!

Transferring data from Android to iPhone after setup is technically tricky with completely free tools. Most free apps simply don't support moving SMS history without a reset.
Workaround: While your specific chat history won't move over automatically, your WhatsApp media and chats can be moved using WhatsApp's own official "Chat Transfer" feature (found in WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Transfer Chats), though this can sometimes require a QR code scan during a specific setup window.
Using Email is another effective way to transfer data from Android to iPhone after setup. Although it's not the most efficient method, it's suitable for transferring smaller amounts of data, such as contacts, calendar events, and notes.
How to transfer data from Android to iPhone after setup:
- On your Samsung, open your email app (any provider)
- Compose an email to yourself
- Attach the files you want to transfer
- Send the email
- Open the email on your iPhone and download the attachments
What transfers well via email:
- Photos and videos (as attachments)
- Documents (PDF, Word, Excel)
- Single contacts (as .vcf files)
Limitations:
- File size limits vary by provider (typically 20-25MB per email)
- Not practical for hundreds of photos or large videos
- Messages cannot be transferred this way

Your Galaxy phone likely saved your contacts to your Google account automatically. You just need to flip a switch on your iPhone to pull them over. Using Google Account Sync is another effective way to move data from Android to iPhone. Since you've already set up your iPhone.
Here's a step-by-step guide:
- Set up Google Account Sync on your Android device: Ensure that your Android device is connected to the same Google Account that you plan to use on your iPhone.
- Backup your Android device data: On your Android device, go to Settings > Accounts > [Your Google Account] > Sync. This will ensure that your data is synced to your Google Account.
- Restore data on your iPhone: On your iPhone, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security > Sign in with Google. Enter your Google Account credentials to sign in.
- Choose apps to sync: On your iPhone, go to Settings > [Your Name] > Password & Security > Apps Using Google Account. Choose the apps you want to sync data from, such as Google Drive, Gmail, Google Photos, and more.
- Wait for data to sync: Your iPhone will now sync with your Google Account, transferring data from your Android device to your iPhone. This process may take some time, depending on the amount of data you have stored in your Google Account.
By using Google Account Sync, you can easily move data from Android to iPhone, including contacts, calendar events, photos, and more.

Using the Files app to move data from Android to iPhone can be a practical method, especially for moving files like documents, photos, and videos. Here’s how you can do it:
1. Prepare Your Devices:
- Ensure both your Android device and iPhone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Install a file management app on your Android device, such as Files by Google or any file explorer.
2. Transfer Files via Cloud Storage:
- Upload your important files from your Android device to a cloud service like Google Drive, Dropbox, or OneDrive.
- On your iPhone, open the Files app.
- Use the Files app to access your cloud storage account and download the files you need.
3. Using the Files App for Direct Transfer:
- Some third-party apps or methods allow direct transfer via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth, but these often require additional apps or setup.
- Alternatively, you can connect your Android device to your computer, copy files to your PC, then connect your iPhone via a computer and use iTunes or Finder to sync files into the Files app.
4. Move Data from Android to iPhone:
- If you’re setting up a new iPhone, Apple’s Move to iOS app is designed specifically for migrating data from Android to iPhone.
- During setup, select “Move Data from Android” and follow the on-screen instructions.
- This method transfers contacts, message history, photos, videos, web bookmarks, and mail accounts.
Important: The Files app itself is primarily a file manager and doesn’t directly facilitate device-to-device transfer without cloud or computer intervention. For the most seamless experience, using Move to iOS during setup is recommended for moving data from Android to iPhone.

Move to iOS is Apple’s official data migration tool, but it does not support transfer data from android to iphone without reset, as it only works during the initial setup of a new iPhone.
It allows you to migrate all core data in one go, but using this feature requires erasing your current iPhone.
First, back up your current iPhone to iCloud or your computer. Go to Settings → General → Transfer or Reset iPhone → Erase All Content and Settings.
Follow the setup process until you reach the Apps & Data screen, then select Transfer from Android. On your Android device, open the Move to iOS app, tap Continue, and scan the QR code displayed on your iPhone. Select the data you want to transfer and wait for the process to complete.
Once setup is complete, you can restore your iPhone backup.
This method cannot be used to transfer data from android to iphone without reset on a configured iPhone, so it is only suitable for users who are willing to erase their device data.
If you don’t want to use other software, you can try this method. This is a drastic measure, so you should think it through carefully.
