Camera with black screen
1. Physical check
Wipe the camera lens clean (laptop users check the physical switch)
Try to test with other apps (e.g. Camera App/WeChat, etc.)
2. Quick reboot
Completely shut down (press and hold the power button for 10 seconds) → Reboot
3. Check camera permissions
Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera
Ensure that:
"Camera Access" is turned on
App permissions underneath are permitted
4. Disable energy-saving settings
Device Manager → Camera Right click on Camera → Properties → Power Management
Cancel "Allow computer to turn off this device"
5. Update Driver
Device Manager → Camera
Right click on Camera → Update Driver → Auto Search
Rollback Driver (if there is a problem with the update)
Open Driver Properties as above
Select "Rollback Driver"
6. System Repair
Run Hardware Troubleshooting
Settings → System → Troubleshooting
Run Hardware and Devices Troubleshooting
7. Reinstall the Camera app
PowerShell:
powershell
Get-AppxPackage *Microsoft.WindowsCamera* | Remove-AppxPackage
and then reinstall it from the App Store
8. System Restore
Settings → System → Restore
Select "Go back" to the previous normal point in time.
