Build 18875 refuses to update to 18885

Two computers (home built workstation) and Surface Pro 4. Both machines are on 18875. They both refuse to install 18885.

I've tried changing my Insider settings to Release Preview but that doesn't work because it is considered an older release of Windows.

  • NicolSD There are various fixes to get the next Insider build to install. What to do depends on what you are seeing exactly. Here are a few things to consider trying:

    • a clean boot
      • use msconfig to disable all non-Microsoft services
      • use Task Manager Startup tab to disable all items
      • restart
    • completely uninstall any non-Microsoft antivirus software
    • delete the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder
    • delete the entire Registry key:
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost
      • then reselect Fast Ring in Settings
    • check Settings - Accounts - Your info
      • if there is a link to Verify, process through that
    • ensure that Privacy - Diagnostics & feedback - Diagnostic data is set to Full
