Brightness issue on game start up
It sounds like a frustrating issue—especially when your games were running fine before.
This kind of sudden screen brightness spike usually points to one of the following:
🔍 Possible Causes & Fixes:
Display Driver Glitch
Even if your drivers are up to date, they can still get corrupted. Try doing a clean reinstall of your GPU drivers using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) and then reinstall the latest drivers from your GPU manufacturer's website (Intel/NVIDIA/AMD).
Windows HDR Settings
Go to Settings > System > Display and check if HDR is turned on. If it is, try turning it off. HDR can cause brightness and color issues in certain games.
Steam Overlay / In-Game Settings
Check if the games that are affected have any specific in-game brightness or gamma settings that might have been changed.
Also, try disabling Steam Overlay:
Right-click the game > Properties > General > Uncheck "Enable the Steam Overlay while in-game".
Asus Software Conflicts
If you have any Asus-specific utilities like Armoury Crate, GameVisual, or MyASUS, they might be forcing display profiles. Try temporarily disabling or uninstalling them and see if the issue goes away.
Color Calibration or Night Light Settings
Go to Settings > System > Display > Color Profile or check if Night Light is enabled. If anything’s off, reset the color calibration.
âś… Quick Test:
Try launching one of the problematic games in Windowed Mode and see if the brightness issue still happens. This can help isolate whether it's a full-screen rendering problem.
Let us know your specs (GPU model, OS version) and which games are affected—might help narrow it down even further!
Hope this helps!
