Any good folder locker for mac app to password protect a folder?
If you're looking for a free folder locker for Mac, Keka and Encrypto can both help. Encrypto: It allows you to encrypt individual files or folders easily with a password. You simply drag your folder or files into Encrypto, set a password, and it creates an encrypted version. To access the contents, you decrypt with the password. Like Keka, it’s straightforward but works on individual files or folders rather than hiding a folder directly.
Step:
1. Install and open Encrypto.
2. Encrypt a folder:
- Since Encrypto works with files, you can compress your folder into a ZIP file first (using macOS built-in - compression or a tool like Keka).
- Drag and drop the ZIP file into Encrypto.
- Set a strong password.
- Click Encrypt.
- Encrypto will generate an encrypted file with a .encrypto extension.
3. Decryption:
- To access the folder later, double-click the encrypted .encrypto file.
- Enter the password to decrypt and retrieve your original ZIP file.
- Extract the ZIP to access your folder.
Important notes:
- Direct folder locking isn't supported; you encrypt a ZIP (or other archive) of the folder.
- Security: Use a strong, unique password.
- This method is convenient but not as seamless as dedicated folder lockers. For more integrated folder locking, consider full disk encryption like FileVeult.
If you want a more complete folder locker for Mac experience, you might consider VaraCrypt, which creates an encrypted container that acts like a secure virtual drive.
