Mar 17, 2022Hi there! I'm Dune Desormeaux, Product Manager working on Windows Commercial. While I can't comment on whether a new version of USMT is coming, the problem of user state migration is something we know is important and are actively looking into. Printers and User Profiles sound like must haves for migration- is there anything else that is missing?

DuneConfigured Hi Dune thank you for responding, Since we have updated ADK Windows 11 which includes USMT tools, we have lost very important functionality that worked great in the previous Windows 10 version. The new USMT for Windows 11 no longer transfers users custom desktop background images, desktop customizations, mapped network printers. This is essential when we are migrating User Profiles for thousands of systems from either Windows 7 or Windows 10.
We would also like it to be easier to Exclude a common folder and contents from being transferred to the new PC's C:\ drive during migration.
Example: C:\Temp
USMT should also by default ignore Windows Defender files, directories on during scanstate, loadstate.
You may also want to know that if a PC has OneDrive enabled and backing files to cloud, it can be very problematic when you run USMT tools.
Yes, Printers, User Profiles, migrating User Profile customizations like desktop background images, desktop shortcuts, etc. are defiantly must haves.
