SSU and LCU deployments via SCCM
Greetings,
We use SCCM to deploy and manage 10k devices in our org. We have issues with installing updates using software update groups. Seems like the patches fight over which will install first and therefore return as failure on the deployment summarization. I was told that SSUs need to be installed/deployed first before the rest of monthly patches. Is this true? if so, are there any workarounds since having multiple SUGs and deployments will be cumbersome on a large enterprise

Note 2: ConfigMngr 2002 or later also support appropriate orchestration of SSUs and LCUs if targeted together to a device.- gatenkaas112233Copper Contributor

Hi, the SSUs do need to be installed/deployed before certain monthly patches. *NOTE: this is truly version depedent at this point. For all devices running 2004+ getting updates from WSUS (inc SCCM) will have the monthly LCU packaged with the SSU (if applicable for that month). See more here: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/deploy-windows-ssus-and-lcus-together-with-one-cumulative-update/ba-p/1967887. They will then be automatically orchestrated on the client. Note, this capability will be coming back to older version as well: https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/windows-it-pro-blog/simplifying-on-premises-deployment-of-servicing-stack-updates/ba-p/1646039
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
