How do I move Recovery Partition Windows Server?
I'm facing a challenge with my Windows Server setup and could really use some guidance. I need to move the recovery partition to a different location on my hard drive, but I'm unsure of the best approach to do this without compromising the system's integrity. I've tried a few methods, but they haven't worked as expected, and I'm concerned about the potential impact on boot processes and system recovery options.
Could anyone provide insights or step-by-step instructions on how to safely relocate the recovery partition?
Hi Mandaoy,
for Windows Server if this is a VM there are some tricks. Usually for Windows Server 3rd party tools are pretty expensive and a per instance licensing.
So you might want to grab one license on a WS or Windows Client jump host, and attach the VHDX in question. Move and unattach VHDX.
The question I have is: Why moving it? it is at the end of the physical drive and belongs there.
Here's a blog of mine about WinREBLOG: Guidance for Windows Recovery partition (WinRE) patching and why you would need it | Microsoft Community Hub, plus additional information in comments below.

- Avoid relocating the recovery partition unless there’s no other option.
- Consider creating a custom recovery solution using backup images instead of relying on the built-in recovery partition.
Well said.
