Concerns with Win10 Feature Update (Preview)

We have recently attached all of our CM clients to Intune and now have several thousand Win10 devices managed as either comanaged or Intune.  Our current Software Update ring is setup to defer feature updates for 365 days.  Our broad user base is on 1809 and would want to keep them on that build until we are ready to plan a phased roll-up to either 1909 or 2004.  That said, I was looking to enable feature update profile, have it set to 1809 and push it out to our broad base of devices.  Due to limitations I understand I would need to update the ring and set the deferment to 0 days.

My concern is I am hearing in the CCP questions during the calls where folks who went with this approach were surprised the devices set to freeze at a certain build were in fact getting a feature update.  Once they had made this change.   That said I cannot afford any surprises and am still concerned that our 365 defer will expire soon.

Should I wait till this feature update is out of preview or what do you recommend?  Thoughts?  thanks!

  • Miguel Sanabia build numbers you have mentioned including 1809, 1909 and 2004 all are out of preview. Normally there shouldn't be any problem but it is better to try test them out in small group of non-critical clients and slowly deploy them among the rest of clients. Client freeze might happen in any build and it need to be investigate and it is not common case and I experience it in some specific cases when by looking into log files we manage to investigate and fix them.
