Windows Autopatch - Windows Driver Updates (preview)

Hi Guys,

Need help in relation to this feature that is available in preview under the release settings for Windows Autopatch - Windows Driver Updates (preview).

I would like to know how this works with Windows Autopatch.

I enabled the preview option for our tenant and then noticed that Rings groups are not aligned with Windows Autopatch Ring. Just want to understand how this work but couldn't find the right resource document on this.

Any suggestion or help is appreciated.

Thank,

Sheetal

  • Hi SheetalPatel ,

    There is an automated mapping between the Service-based and Software-based ring groups for all your devices as follows:

    Windows Autopatch - Test --> Modern Workplace Devices-Windows Autopatch-Test

    Windows Autopatch - Ring1--> Modern Workplace Devices-Windows Autopatch-First

    Windows Autopatch - Ring2 --> Modern Workplace Devices-Windows Autopatch-Fast

    Windows Autopatch - Ring3 --> Modern Workplace Devices-Windows Autopatch-Broad

    Windows Autopatch - Last --> Modern Workplace Devices-Windows Autopatch-Broad

    If you add any further rings i.e. Windows Autopatch - Ring4 up to Ring15, then these will also be mapped to Modern Workplace Devices-Windows Autopatch-Broad.

    Hope this helps.

    Regards,

    Richard

      Thanks Chad
      So, for drivers management have separate set of default service groups compare to Windows Autopatch default deployment rings?

        And also, how does it decide membership of the device?
        For eg: If the Windows Autopatch Machine is part of the "Windows Autopatch - Test" does it mean it will the same machine into the service group "Modern Workplace Devices-Windows Autopatch-Test"
