Restore deleted policies

Hi there,

The test and last update rings were deleted from our Autopatch policy. How can I go about restoring them, please?

When I attempt to add groups to those rings and set deferrals, I get a warning message saying "Update policies from this Autopatch group are missing, usually because they’ve been deleted. Settings cannot be configured for missing policies until they are restored."

The Deployment Ring and Feature Update settings are available to configure, but there's no editable settings for Quality and Driver Updates, so I'm unable to save the policy in the hopes to re-create them that way.

Any help is appreciated!

  • When Autopatch rings or their associated policies are deleted manually (Test, Last, or any of the WUfB policies), Autopatch cannot recreate them. That’s why you see “Update policies from this Autopatch group are missing” and why Quality/Driver settings are unavailable.

There is no “restore” button for Autopatch policies.

The only supported way to rebuild the missing rings and policies is:

    1. Remove Windows Autopatch from your tenant
    2. Wait until all Autopatch objects (groups + policies) are fully removed
    3. Re‑enroll Autopatch, which recreates all rings and policies from scratch

After re‑enrollment, the Test and Last rings will be recreated automatically.

Autopatch policies should not be modified or deleted manually, otherwise the service can no longer manage or regenerate them.
