Viva Home cannot be a home because of the wrong template
- Oct 16, 2023
I'm guessing it's using a "modified template" or some setting that's disabled (which we can't see) and when provisioning a new SharePoint enviroment it doesn't have the check for that.
But adding but when removing it from home-site it can be readded due to it missing some setting. It's not documented so hard to tell, but I would guess it this way as you can't navigate from Viva Connection home to the site as you would normally do
OR it might just be a bug...
SITEPAGEPUBLISHING#0 is a Communication site, that's it's internal name.
The idea with Viva Connection Home is that it's a gateway to the employee experience, which means that an employee should a personalized experience with most of their needs and if the user needs more information they can go and visit the Intranet(Landing page) with an additional button.
You can also run Viva Connection home without a Homesite as standalone and considering the new redesign coming up, it will contain most of what an organisation want's on a intranet landing site. This is an option for organisations that don't have their intranet in SharePoint
I created a guide if you want to setup Viva Home without SharePoint:

Hi,
Thank you for the answer, but that doesn't seem to be the case:
The error message says:
Diese Website kann nicht als Startseite festgelegt werden. Die Website muss eine Kommunikationswebsite sein.
This website cannot be set as a Home Site. The website must be a Communication site.

AHHH! I get it, so this site was created without creating a homesite option (as in my blogpost, which is default on new tenants), so that's why you can't set it as a homesite!
So while it's a communication site it's not your regular out of the box one!
What you need to do is to create a new communication site and then assign it as homesite and then change in admin that it's you main default one!
- OneHundredthProfileOct 16, 2023Copper ContributorWell, it is a brand new tenant. Created only last week. The VivaHome I am referring to was initially set as a HomeSite.
I changed it, and now I cannot change it back.
It is also true that any other Communication site I create, can be set as a Home Site.
"So while it's a communication site it's not your regular out of the box one! "
Could you elaborate on that please?
Why could VivaHome be set initially as a Home Site and now it cannot?- Oct 16, 2023
