Microsoft To Do Tasks Disappeared
Contact Microsoft Support: Since this issue seems to be related to Microsoft To-Do, contacting Microsoft Support may be your best bet. They may be able to provide you with more specific guidance and help you troubleshoot the issue.
Check for updates: Make sure that all of your devices and the web app are running the latest version of Microsoft To-Do. You mentioned that all of your devices are on version 2.55, but it's possible that there may be a newer version available that could fix the issue.
Try a different internet connection: It's possible that the issue may be related to your internet connection. Try connecting to a different network, such as a mobile hotspot, and see if the issue persists.
Use a different device: If possible, try accessing Microsoft To-Do on a different device and see if your tasks are still missing. If they are, then the issue is likely with your account or the application itself. If they're not, then it may be an issue with the device you were previously using.
Backup your tasks: It's always a good idea to backup your tasks in case something like this happens again in the future. You can export your tasks to a CSV file and save them locally on your computer or in cloud storage.
Hopefully, one of these steps will help you resolve the issue with your missing tasks.
Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to help however, I have deleted the app. I lost years of information, wasted days trying to get it back and now have absolutely no trust or belief in MS so won't be risking it again.
Thanks anyway,
EA
- Jon_BehMay 16, 2024Copper ContributorI absolutely understand. Exact same thing has happened to me. I don't ever want to trust MS again. I lost very important stuff. Do you have suggestions on a good alternative to Microsoft To Do?

If Google is allowed in your organization: Google Keep
We still encounter the issue of randomly disappearing tasks. All MS To-Do Tasks will just disappear on their own. And this is while only using MS To-Do online.

Jon_Beh , "Do you have suggestions on a good alternative to Microsoft To Do?"
I've used the TaskTask app on my iPhone for many years, successfully syncing with Windows Outlook. I wouldn't be surprised to see the roll-out of New Outlook (New Coke) to break it.
I too lost many of my tasks when I tried the iPhone To Do app. Note that this was not a browser-caching issue -- the tasks were permanently deleted from my Office 365 Exchange account, synced with Windows Outlook. I tried To Do twice, over a year apart, and each time experienced corruption.
- Jon_BehMay 17, 2024Copper ContributorWait. So you're using TaskTask even though it syncs with Windows Outlook?
I've spent the past 4.5 hours being bounced around Microsoft Support and have talked to roughly 9 different people. At this point I don't want anything to do with Microsoft and want to switch entirely to Google or elsewhere. So I'm hesitant to use TaskTask if it's involved with Microsoft Outlook. Google Docs, Google Sheets and Wunderlist have never given me these issues. Shocking a big and powerful company like Microsoft can't get something as basic as 'saving your reminders' correct

Last night I set up the To Do app on my iPhone, and several hundred tasks synced from my Outlook / Microsoft365.com. This morning, about half the tasks are gone. Luckily, I had the tasks in a separate PST, which I can restore from backup.
So much for To Do -- looking for another solution.
