error when sharing list
- Jan 21, 2026
Hi all, seems like the software engeneer woke up ;) It is fixed and a least i was able to invite people to my lists and they accepted them and are in. So from my end no issue anylonger but have to admit i created lists like hell to be preparred when it breaks again :D
Hi everyone
I’ve found a temporary workaround for the issue with sharing lists in Microsoft To Do.
If you right-click the list you want to share and select Sharing settings, you’ll see an option at the bottom called Manage access.
When you click Manage access, you’ll be taken to the setting Restrict access to current members.
I discovered that if you enable this setting after sending the sharing link or inviting members, the list will appear for users who have registered.
I noticed this because I received an error message saying I couldn’t join the list, even though the person who sent me the invitation could see that I was added as a member.
This is obviously not a long-term solution, but it can be used as a temporary workaround until Microsoft fixes the problem.

is it still working? when i add the toggle as you described, the link is no longer valid and my wife can't get in. I tried it in random orders but with no success. anyone else able to get this workaround done?

It still works for me.
The invitation link will not work because the setting that Restrict access to current members is turned on.
Therefore, it’s important to enable that setting only after the person who sent out the invitation link can confirm that everyone has been added as members. After that, the invited person needs to log in to Microsoft To Do, and then the list will appear in their view.
In short: the link will never work as a direct way to access the list. The only way to find it is by logging in at https://to-do.office.com/, where the list will then be visible.

Hi Rebecca,
the core issue is that the other person can't access the list. it has access for a second and then disappeared with a failure message. Having that said the other Member will never be in the list, so turning on the toggle doesn't bring value to the issue, decried above
