All my tasks and lists have disappeared, not accidentally deleted
All my tasks and lists built over several years have all disappeared
Everything from Birthdays list to all my custom lists and every task I had is all gone
I didn't accidentally delete it as every single thing is gone and only the newer things I added on today are working
After a long time I got through to a live chat but they only kept referring back to old help pages where the instructions were outdated
I was told there was a special team for Microsoft To Do but can't keep to find the previous "get support" option anywhere and the live chat kept referring back to other random pages that didn't help
I have been through some of the previous instructions I have found online e.g going to deleted folders (not found anything there) and nothing suggested on these forums have helped me resolve the issue
The only thing I can think of is if there is some option like restore to previous data (such as in OneDrive or Dropbox) but I would assume this can only be done by the specialist team who I have no way of contacting
My account is synced on both my phone and laptop and the issue is with both so it is not isolated to just my phone or laptop
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the lists are very important and been built up over several years

Hi,
Thanks for the reply and apologies for the late response
I have tried all the steps you suggested but unfortunately they didn't provide a solution on this occasion
Reading through the previous forums here and having experienced the support myself I am not confident. I saved my chat transcript where I requested several times to be put on contact with a Microsoft ToDo specialist on the chat but instead I was consistently sent to random help sections and then told to create a question on this forum where I would be "guaranteed" to get the help I need
Not sure I'll have much luck to be honest as there is limited live chat options or agents who can help, but I appreciate your response regardless

Because your Microsoft To Do lists disappeared on both your phone and laptop, while new tasks still work, this may be an account synchronisation or server-side issue rather than accidental deletion.
The most important thing: don't sign out, reinstall the app, or make further changes to old lists yet. Protect what remains while you investigate.
What to do next
Check the web version: Visit
Microsoft To Do and sign in with the exact same Microsoft account. See whether your old lists appear there.
Check Outlook Tasks: Visit
Outlook on the web and check whether your tasks are still present.
Verify the account: Make sure both devices and the web app use the same Microsoft account.
Contact Microsoft Support: Visit
Microsoft Support and request escalation to the Microsoft To Do team. Explain that years of lists disappeared across multiple synced devices.
Ask support specifically to investigate server-side task data loss and possible recovery, rather than sending you general troubleshooting articles. Don't assume OneDrive can restore To Do lists; they may not be stored there as ordinary files.
