On-premise storage requirements with online backup

Before I added MARS online backup to my DPM 2022 server, I did not have storage limit issues on my on-premises backup.  It seems like the online Azure backup has added to the storage requirements for the on-premises storage and I am exhausting my on-premises storage.  Am I imagining this or is this the case?

Thanks.

  • You are not imagining this. When you integrate Microsoft Azure Recovery Services (MARS) with your DPM (Data Protection Manager) 2022 server for online backups, it can indeed impact your on-premises storage requirements. Here's why: 1. **Disk-Based Storage Increase**: DPM uses on-premises disk storage to create backups before sending them to Azure. When MARS is configured, DPM might retain additional recovery points on-premises to facilitate efficient synchronization with Azure. This can lead to increased storage consumption locally. 2.

At least 2 to 3 times as much? I have a secondary server connected to this primary server (and nothing else) with about the same number of recovery points and storage volume size. In the past, the disk consumption was similar with the primary with only about 25% of the total consumed (75% free). Today I don't know what the primary will consume because it's exhausted the storage and still growing quickly.
