Does the latest version of Stream support 360 video

My client is considering migrating from Kaltura to Microsoft Stream. One of the functional requirements is to be able to support 360 videos. Is this supported in the latest version announced last november?

Maurice_Wildeman if you mean simply upload, click, and view 360 degree monoscopic video as is typical for services such as Youtube.com, Vimeo, and many others such as apparently, Kaltura... then the answer is an easy one: NO. But, read below as there is a "way", it's called SharePoint Spaces.

There are probably dozens of threads on this in various forums for Microsoft SharePoint and SharePoint connected or dependent services. 360 Degree content in the form of Images and Video in Onedrive and SharePoint are in my opinion, problematic. I do not understand why this has not changed or been resolved when I know for certain that the majority - if not all - of the competing services have found a way to easily or seamlessly support 360 content.

As a tech-inclined user, I find Spaces very cumbersome and limiting. But, it does work, and works very well at displaying 360 content - crisp, smooth, high resolution. Simply Bing or Bing Chat a question to get an overview of SharePoint Spaces, and you'll get the information you need. Spaces is not active by default for most SharePoint Installations I don't think, you need to go into the settings for your individual site, and toggle Spaces to "on". You then must create a Space and work in your content from there.

Personally, I wish Microsoft would simply integrate this 360 viewing capacity into SharePoint libraries directly, so it would behave more like Google Photos or Youtube. But, alas, it does not.

  • What do you mean by "support 360 videos"? Do you mean support streaming 360 videos at the same time? Or do you mean storing 360 videos?

There is no question that you can store as many videos as you want. The maximum is going to depend on if you store them all in the same SharePoint site or not and how large the file sizes are in total. But most likely no issue even if in a single site.

As for streaming 360 videos at the same time. . . that really should not be a problem either. But don't hold me to it depending on how many users are streaming at the same time. However, the Microsoft infrastructure using SharePoint is VERY robust.
