Viva Goals Retirement
Hi, Microsoft just announce at https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/viva/goals/goals-retirement that Viva Goals ending in December 2025.
How do you feel about this announcement? It was one of the top business use cases with significant business value in Viva Suite after Viva Topics deprecation.

FYI - Microsoft has added a new "Export" feature to Viva Goals that sends data to CSV or JSON file to possibly make the migration to another OKR platform a bit easier, considering available import options.
It began rolling out in June and should be finished by end of July. Keep an eye out!

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone is facing issues like Planner entegration on Viva Goals after this announcement (signing in with Planner is not possible on VG to be more percise)? I have been dealing with this issue for almost a month now with different customers now and was hoping that someboy could help. For some reason getting in touch with Microsoft Help is inceridibly hard and time consuming. Thank you !
If you are interested in an OKR solution that is completely build on the Microsoft technology stack, then I recommend that you look at Hubdrive OKR. It is completely Power App based and therefore also seemless integrated in Teams and Outlook. Here you can find it on Appsource:

Very disappointed to see Viva Goals being retired. The timeframe is also very short. We have tried many planning tools over the years and found Viva Goals to be easy to use and provided all the functionality we needed. Unless Microsoft is secretly planning to announce an AI based replacement sometime this year, the decision to retire the product this quickly seems strange.
Is Microsoft Perform and Engage 365 an alternative to Viva Goals? I can see this uses the OKR methodology too. I heard you can disable the performance part solely using the goal-setting functionality for strategic planning and alignment to organisational objectives.

Microsoft is not the developer of that platform; it is only made available in the Microsoft app store.

It appears to have potential as a replacement, but I recommend you explore it with them directly to be sure it's right for you.
I’m very disappointed too. We have used it a lot. I think it has all the features I need. No need to develop further, just keep running. Do you have experience on alternative tools? For example workpath?
There are quite a few OKR alternatives. WorkboardAI, Mooncamp, and Quantive are three examples. I don't yet have any personal experience with these, but they seem like high value alternatives.
Highly disappointing as I love using Viva Goal for my organization and did not have it on my radar that in the middle of our strategic plan I need to go find a new tool to track everything. It was so nice that it was all integrated and updates from planner could feed into it.
I was even planning to give some of the other viva items another try in the new year but as one person already said I don’t feel comfortable investing in anything Viva related now.
It is disappointing and creates some headache, but the good news is there are many OKR alternatives, so you should be safe. I understand why investing further in Viva sounds risky but there are at least three other apps that aren't going anywhere. Connections, Engage, and Amplify are here to stay. So don't shy away from those!
It is a pity. I think Viva has an advantage over other products because it can access internal enterprise information, such as org charts, task management with Planner, Power BI, and more. This integration allows for a comprehensive view of resources and tasks within the organization.
Of course, many customers don't use all of these products together; some use Trello instead of Planner for task management, while others use Tableau instead of Power BI. This means that many customers might miss out on experiencing this integrated power. However, I believe that effectively combining these tools is very powerful.
It is unfortunate if product development stops without continuing to improve the integration and synergy among these products. Such development in this direction is crucial for maximizing their benefits to users.
I completely agree with your point about the integration Viva Goals offered within Office 365—it was a significant advantage. The ability to connect internal enterprise tools like org charts, Planner, and Power BI for a comprehensive view of resources and tasks was a powerful feature that set it apart from standalone OKR tools. I'm disappointed that Microsoft chose to retire Viva Goals, especially given their investment and the impact OKR software has had on modern business practices. They did an outstanding job developing it, and it's surprising they wouldn't maintain it as an add-on within Office 365. Perhaps adoption rates weren't as high as expected, but the OKR methodology remains vital for many leading organizations. I hope Microsoft reconsiders and finds a way to preserve this tool instead of letting such a well-developed product go to waste.
