Skype for Business Mac now Generally Available!

We are excited to announce that the Skype for Business client for Mac is now publicly available for download! Thank you all for the efforts you’ve put into making this launch a success.

With your dedicated time, hard work, and valuable feedback, the new Mac client offers high quality video, immersive content sharing and viewing, and a sleek and intuitive look-and-feel to improve how you collaborate day-to-day!

Collectively, our customers filed over 10,000 bugs/feedback items and allowed us to release a high quality release!

Along with the release of our new Mac client, we have also updated our Skype Operations Framework (SOF) assets to help you plan, deliver, and operate the Mac client in your production environments. To find out more information on how SOF can assist you, read our latest blog post.

To watch the latest training on our new Mac client, visit our Skype Academy.

We are not finished with the Mac client yet and still need your help to validate upcoming fixes! As part of the Mac Preview program, you can continue to receive the latest Mac updates:

  1. Set the Microsoft Auto Update settings to Automatically.
  2. Select Channel, then Check for Updates.
  3. Go to Help and click Check for Updates. This launches the Microsoft Auto Updater.
  4. To get the latest update, select Join the Office Insider program.
  5. Beside How to get Insider Builds, select either Office Insider Fast or Office Insider Slow.
  6. Once established, you can click Check for Updates. If there are no updates available, it means you are running the latest build.

  • Office Insider Fast (faster release, potentially less stable): best for users who want to use the earliest preview builds to identify issues and provide feedback, and don’t mind a bit of risk using unsupported builds.
  • Office Insider Slow (slower release, more stable): best for users who want to get early access to fully supported builds with minimal risk and provide feedback.

Thank you again for being part of our Mac Preview program and making the Office experience great!

  • Still cannot find a way to add a group as a SFB Contact group... Also, is there an option to hide the offline contacts?  I cannot even find a place to sort by offline or online... or change the sort at all.

    - White UI really kill eyes in both built-in retina screen and 27 inch 4k monitor. It would be very nice if there at least matte gray / black theme were available. Plus sierra supports dark ui and available for all third party apps.

= SFB does not remember window sizes which defined by user, when you open new conversation window, it's always open with default predefined window size

    - SFB automatically starts itself when os boots, user should able to select that during installation phase, or at least should be notified that this thing can be changed from login items

    That's all for now :)

the roadmap they showed at Ignite was for this calendar year for recording, one-to-one screen sharing and file transfer. Here's hoping they stay on track!

I was part of the preview program and I'm not able to see things like the single-window UI or any other new features released with the GA release. I've uninstalled the version I have about 20 times and reinstalled but to no avail...

Can not share my desktop with others.  Can not share files.  Seems like Lync is still the best option for Mac.

1:1 desktop sharing and file transfer features will be added in the near future.

Agreed. These are two key features that seem to be gone. At least for single person conversations.

So I wiped all traces of Lync (and skype for business) out of my system. Still no luck. Same UI as before.

I am unable to sign in. The sign in screen briefly dissapears and shows a blue circle and goes back to the sign in screen without any error message.

    Hi!

Great job - but it seems no integration with Office 2016 for Mac yet? When I try to add an online meeting in a new appointment, it still tells me that I have to log into Lync?

Hi Jens.  Outlook Integration should work with Outlook version 15.27 (160928) and newer build.

If you do have the current build of Outlook Mac, please try installing SFB Mac and restart Outlook.

        Hi!

I've got Outlook 15.28 (161025) installed. I also had the Lync client installed.

I iuninstalled the Lync client, re-installed SFB and updated to 16.0.3640 but still the same problem.

Now I cannot add any Skype session to an invitation. Error is "The request failed. Please try again. Make sure that you are signed in to Skype for Business (Lync)."

Not sure if it is significant, but my account requires MFA. Since Skype is not integrated, I use an app password.

        Cheers, Jens

Try  deleting Lync and https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2691870. Make sure you run Microsoft update and have Outlook 15.28 or higher. It works fine for the machiens we have it on so far as long as you have all the pieces in place. You do need to b signed in to both apps in order to schedule.

You need the latest version of Outlook 2016.  Think it is in the "Office Insider Fast" updates.
