Multiple chats sessions with same contact in S4B window ?
Hi Peter,
Thank you for your feedback - we have seen and heard this feedback from many customers; it is an experience that we would like to improve. As an explanation, you see this behavior because each conversation in Skype for Business is session based.
Toward the goal of improving the experience, we are looking to group 1:1 conversations together. This update should be released sometime in Summer 2017.
Thanks!
Nick

Nick Suter it’s been like 2 years since the promise to address this. Any update on this please?

Psined They announced previously in this thread that they are not going to fix it. Move to Microsoft Teams or Slack.

Robert Sinclair One just needs to look at this entire thread to understand the disaster Microsoft is, both in terms of product and undelivered promises (or you can just simply call them lies)
What a circus

Still not fixed and it is 2019...
Regular skype maintains chat threads without it creating multiple instances of itself.
I greatly dislike having to use skype for business. Skype (regular) is a useful IM and meeting tool. Skype for business is not. Why such a stark and massive difference in things that are ostensibly named the same?

Give it up people. Just go with Teams and end your pain and suffering!

The pain and suffering will start again as soon as you realize how difficult it is to get bugs fixed in Microsoft Teams.

It is now Summer 2018 and this has not been addressed. Reading the thread I saw that it was expected to be updated Summer 2017. My global organization has just moved to Office 365. This switch from Skype for Desktop to Skype for Business is painful.

Almost April 2018 and this feature for single continuous session 1:1 is still not available...

In for updates, this is literally the most frustrating user experience I've ever dealt with for a messaging app. I see some discussion in previous posts about Windows vs Mac and I have this issue on both my X1 Yoga running Windows 10 Pro and on my MacBook Pro on High Sierra. Honestly wish my company had a better option for messaging via our Microsoft accounts.

Nick, summer 2017 has come and gone. Where is this fix? This issue makes the product all but unusable for standard Day-to-day use cases.

Braedon - we are working on a fix for this, and it is internal testing right now. Since there are many different combinations for multiple conversations, we want to be very careful to make this rock solid before we release the fix. I expect to release a fix in Q1 of 2018.
- Matthew_79Jan 24, 2019Copper ContributorDid anyone find a resolution? This is still occuring on my Mac clients even with most recent client app.

Any updates on the ETA of the 1:1 chats instead of session based chats? Our company has decided to abandon S4B for the moment and look at other IM options as this is an absolute deal-breaker (not to mention the other stability issues we've seen with S4B). We're constantly having to log back in and end up missing chat attempts if the software hasn't actively been used for a while (like a timeout of some sort). I wish we could simply create a "pro" version of the consumer Skype instead of these failed attempts to make Lync work.

Same here... my company abandoned SfB in favor of Cisco Spark. Stability and persistency to be the main issues. What I dont understand is why this works great in Skype with multiple devices and not SfB on even one machine.

I agree, this should be solved as soon as possible to have a Skype (Consumer) oder whatsapp like Chat history
- Peter OkornFeb 19, 2017Brass Contributor
Hi Nick,
Ok, great, that's good news. From a chat perspective, this really should be similar to WhatsApp, if I may say that. There is something very simplistic to being able to scroll up and review old messages, and, a single avenue to all shared documents/media as well.
Can I ask, how will this change affect the Conversation History in Outlook?
Thanks,
P

Hi Peter,
Great question; I am not entirely sure how this would affect conversation history, if at all... Before I come up with some wild ideas; let me circle back with the Product Owner (PO) and see if they have and initial thoughts on this one.
Thanks!
Nick

Summer of 2017 has come and gone. Has this been rolled out yet?
It baffles me that S4B behaves like this and cant get it right after all these years while the regular Skype (free version) does a marvelous job at it
