Skype for Business connecting with Skype
I am an elementary school teacher and my school district uses Office 365 and Skype for Business. I have tried with varied success to use Skype for Business for virtual field trips. After some research and trouble shooting, I have discovered that connecting with individuals outside of Skype for Business can be tricky...especially if the Skype account is not connected to a Microsoft account.
We are currently offering Microsoft Training to our teachers, but I'm unsure how to proceed with Skype In The Classroom Training.
- Are there plans to make Skype for Business more compatible with other Skype accounts?
- Would it be best to use Skype (not Skype for Business) for virtual field trips?
- Can an email connected to "Skype for Business" be used to create a "Skype" account?
Thanks in advance for your assistance!!

- You are correct - the only way for a Skype for Business account to work with a Skype account is if the latter is tied to a Microsoft account.
Ultimately it comes down to what you want. You could schedule meetings with people using Skype for Business - then they can connect from their computer using only a browser.
Or use the Skype for Business account for everything other than field trips, and use a Skype account for the field trips.
As for using a Skype for Business account with Skype itself - that won't work as by default "business" accounts in Office 365 are blocked from signing up for a Microsoft account using the same email address.
