Can NOT send files through Skype for business on Mac (16.15.148)
Thanks Phillip, is there a plan to support this feature in the normal version (not server version)?
What do you mean by "normal version"? Every version of Skype for Business requires either a Skype for Business topology on your network or direct connectivity to Skype for Business Online (in Office 365) in order to sign in. As Phillip has indicated, it was ALREADY supported if you connect to Skype for Business Online, while it ALSO became possible to add the capability for any user accounts homed on a Skype for Business server on your network through the December 2017 Cumulative Update for Skype for Business Server 2015.
This means every possible manner of using Skype for Business for Mac (either in the cloud in Office 365 or on your local network with a Skype for Business server) has the capability of sending files directly from one user to another. Just make sure you are using a recent version of the client.

Currently using 16.17.65 and there isn't an option for file sharing. When I drag a file into the chat it just puts the file path as text.

Is your organization running an on prem Skype for Business 2015 server topology or is the organization using only Skype for Business Online in Office 365? If the former, then you need to deploy the cumulative update released in December 2017 and run a PowerShell command to enable the feature globally. If the latter, then it should already be working.
