SPFx 2019 OnPrem extension

I have created a spfx 2019 on prem extension using "SharePoint 2019 onward including SharePoint online" .it got created successfully and working fine in SharePoint online but SP2019 onprem it is not showing the "Alert message". It is giving warning in developer tool related to manifest. My site is running on HTTP url instead of HTTPS. Do we need to run our site on HTTPS so that extension can work
