Sharepoint site's folder permission API

Dear SharePoint Team,

I am interested in implementing a REST API for my application, specifically to manage the permissions of a document folder within a SharePoint site. I would like to be able to add or remove permissions for a user.

Could you please let me know if there is an API available that can support this use case?
