how to change append column to single line text in sharepoint?

Try these steps:
- Go to your SharePoint list
- Click on Settings (gear) icon from top right corner and select List settings
- Scroll down to Columns section on list settings page and click on your column name:
- Change type to Single line of text and click OK at the bottom of column settings page to save the changes:

Do you have any data in the append text column or is it a test site data?
If you don't have any data or you have test or only single entry in the append text column, you can change it's data type to single line of text from column settings.
If you have only single entry, data will not be deleted. If you have multiple entries in the appended text column, only latest entry will be kept as is and past entries will be deleted.
Try changing column settings like:
Go to column settings:
Change column type:
It will show you a pop up with warning message. If you are OK with the data loss as mentioned above, click "Save" button from pop up.

ganeshsanap thank you for explanation, here is additional information:
some of the values are null, some have multiple values.
For some reason which i dont know, the edit is not available on this column but available in the other columns.
without deleting the column, is there away to edit and change to single line text?
