Why different used size of OneDrive in My Files app and OneDrive app
Hello.
I`m inchare of My Files app in Samsung mobile.
We are displaying the information of onedrive`s quota in our app.
But we have a problem about used size in OneDrive.
We are using the api to get drive information regarding quota like below.
https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/graph/api/drive-get?view=graph-rest-1.0&tabs=java
Get current user's OneDrive
HTTP
GET /me/drive
But when I call with the above api, the used size of onedrive is returned less than the OneDrive app in the mobile.
So when I calculate the capacity of the actual files on onedrive, the total capacity is not correct.
You can reproduce this issue in Samsung mobiles.
This issue occurred in Android 13 and Android 14 version of Samsung devices.
information for reproduce
- execute the My Files app -> login the onedrive -> go to Analyse storage -> check the used size of onedrive.
- login the OneDrive app -> check the used size.
= The used size is different.
Please check this issue.
Thank you.

Hi,
Welcome to Microsoft community, concerning the different used size of OneDrive in your File app and OneDrive app.
The discrepancy in the used size of OneDrive between the My Files app and the OneDrive app could be due to several reasons:
OneDrive adds additional metadata to Office documents after uploading, which changes the size of the file.
- The OneDrive Files On Demand feature doesn’t download the file to your computer, only a placeholder or link to it. This could cause a discrepancy in the reported size.
- Storage utilities show file categories, not the actual files.
- Other reasons could be paging files, System Restore, etc.
It’s also worth noting that OneDrive saves version histories of folders, which can add up to the total size.If you’re still facing issues, you might want to try resetting OneDrive or reinstalling the OneDrive client. However, please proceed with caution and make sure your data is backed up before making any changes.
Concerning the issue with the Samung Mobile,
The difference in the used size of OneDrive between the My Files app and the OneDrive app could be due to a number of reasons, such as the OneDrive Files On-Demand feature, which doesn’t download the file to your computer, only a placeholder or link to it.
To resolve this issue, you can try the following steps:
1.Check if both OneDrive clients show up-to-date information when you click on them. If not, what is the error message?
2.Click the OneDrive icon and go to Settings. Under account, check the storage used for both clients. Are they the same?
3.If they are different, click the OneDrive icon and select Pause syncing, then resume syncing on the client which has fewer storage used.If I have answered your question, please mark your post as Solved
