Non classroom areas

Are there any plans for non class areas in the Classroom portal?

For example in our current intranet we have sections for all of the courses as well as things like the library, student services etc that don't really fit the class/teacher format.

How are other Classroom users getting around this?

  • Hello Micheal

If the scenario is not teacher-student, student=student or teacher-teacher then MSClassroom is probably not the right destination. Have you tried using Office365 groups via Outlook?

    Thanks

Much the same issue, unless I have a Group with a couple of thousand people in it, which isn't all that practical. Azure AD Premium (and dynamic group membership) is too expensive for serious consideration in an EDU enviroment.

There's always SharePoint, but then we are running a Student intranet for some content and Classroom for others. Ideally I'd just have the Classroom portal.

It would seem for the use cases you mentioned: "library and student services" that a SharePoint site makes more sense because you can assign the permissions as needed for who has access to the sites. What I've heard schools talk about is using different services based on the needs of what is communicated: School wide information on SharePoint, extra curricular resources on either SharePoint or Groups, and individual class homework assignments and collaboration in Classroom. If you need to get on the phone with someone to discuss send an email to my colleagues at o365edu@microsoft.com.
