Developer Preview is automatically reactivated in Teams
Some time ago, I activated Previews in my Teams client. And now I can't permanently disable it! I have reinstalled, rebooted and deleted the cache numerus times, but a short while after starting Teams, Preview is automatically activated, and this results in the Viva Connections icon in the App Rail is gone.
It looks like the Preview activation is registered somewhere outside of the Teams client. But where?
- I am facing the same situation( Public Preview menu has been gone, can not turn on Public Preview). I am checking current status. I have not find the solution....
I have been seeing this exact issue for several weeks now on one of my work PCs. I'm wondering if there is something that needs to be removed from the registry. I was also wondering if this issue could be related to my Office release channel. To see your office release channel, open Outlook (or any office app), then go to FILE > OFFICE ACCOUNT. Under 'About Outlook', mine shows 'Current Channel (Preview)'. Perhaps this channel setting is just a coincidence though.
I believe you are on to something, I have just recently been the recipient of this plague that has crossed multiple tenancies now. Different builds have crept into Preview status. This feels related to MS Teams just wanting to be in Developer Preview mode.
I'm investigating further and will test created a local offline build editing the XML to change the channel of the build to see what happens.

I am facing the same issue, sometimes even multiple times a day. Very annoying to keep switching back all the time.
- Facing the same issue since sometime, its automatically switching back to Developer Preview and its happening more often these days.
- Did you ever figure this out? We're seeing this with AVD, we have 1 version after clearing appdata and then a trash version that doesn't work after the app reboots.
- Exact same issue. Would love a fix. Tired of Teams breaking every day because it's in Developer Mode.
- I'm having the same issue in macOS — I manually disabled Developer Preview, and Teams just quit and restarted itself mid-session to re-enable it.
- same for me on MacOS. Will run in standard mode for a while after I uncheck the option but randomly turns itself back on again. I'f tried deleting all traces of the app and reinstalling but no luck
JakobRohde We had the same issue, and Google lead me to this thread. I resolved the issue, dropping our solution here for all others that got led here by Google. In our case, the release preferences for the tenant was set to "Targeted release for everyone", and according to the instructions on how to enable the Teams developer preview: "Note: If your tenant is enrolled for Microsoft 365 Targeted Releases, developer preview is automatically enabled"
