Trim feature removed in new Stream?
Has the trim feature been removed in both the new (SharePoint) Stream and tradtional Stream interface? I discovered this today when attempting to trim a video recorded from a Teams meeting. The ...

I know that not having trim in Stream (on SharePoint) is painful. Full video editing will come with clipchamp being added to enterprise later this year.
It's been a long road for us in the product group to get to a plan for what to do in Stream. We apologize for how long it's taken us. It's not easy for us to just add back the ability that was in Stream (Classic) to SharePoint, the underlying architecture and storage is very different.
Thank you for all the feedback you've shared and all the votes in the ideas forum. We've finally been able to land on a design for a simple trim option directly in Stream. We aren't able to share a timeline or roadmap item yet until we get further on the engineering design and start coding.
Feel free to keep adding your votes and comments to this item in the Ideas forum. (I consolidated the other few ideas into this single one that joined all the votes together):
Support for video trimming (start, end, & middle) · Community (microsoft.com)

Sep 21, 2022We don't have trim for videos in onedrive or SharePoint. Only in Stream (Classic). We are trying to build a simple version into the new experience. We are thinking of doing a default start and end time for the video. The video would start at that point and pause at end point but users could see and jump to parts outside these points.
Would that meet your need in the short term while we build a more complicated trim feature or until clipchamp for full video editing is available?

Sep 22, 2022👆 Thoughts on above, from anyone, would that simple default start and end time at least meet some of the trim needs in the short term?

This is a key function to use Stream as the video management tool for a company. I am trying to cut out content from the end of a video that can't be there and now I have to find another tool to do this in.- karen_dredskeOct 27, 2023Steel ContributorPaulScheiman you can now use Clipchamp to trim videos. It is already included in your Enterprise subscription if you have a Targeted Release tenant and it is available in the Windows app store for your laptop. This is what we use for right now. Some extra steps, but the price is right and it's pretty easy to use.

karen_dredske Yes, there are many third party apps available too, but that is not at all helpful: Microsoft have foolishly decided to take away this feature from Stream and WE are suffering as a result; Videos that have been recorded e.g. in Teams are already uploaded and present online. All people like me want to do is be able to trim out, for example the time it takes the presenter to get ready at the start of a recording. Your suggestion means downloading the video, editing it in e.g. Chimpface, re-saving it, re-uploading and then having to tell those present where the new recording is !! Do you not see how illogical all that is ? All we want is the trim feature added back to Stream (as well as the other features that used to be there).

Marc Mroz No! The trim feature is one of the most basic ones. Have you guys every been to a meeting? You know all those minutes spent waiting for other people or going through warm-ups?
A quick trim is a must to start a video right, without forcing the viewer to skip around until they find the right time to start watching.
Jeez... You would think you want to improve the services as time goes by
- SkyeFJan 20, 2023Brass ContributorPlease bring back standard Trim controls for users OR enable Stream recordings to be downloaded as mp4s. Trim was an internal hack that made the mp4 download viable and without it I'm now in a world of hurt trying to make and share a basic 2 minute screen recording that should be done by now but here I am commenting on a community thread. grrrr.
- BNESeanNov 10, 2022Brass ContributorIf MS are happy to allow the product to keep recording the meeting when one participant fails to his 'leave' and remains joined in the meeting ..... then I kinda think MS are obliged to give us back the feature to trim the meeting.

Marc Mroz just bring back trim option> To me that is a core feature thhat you want and need.
Teams recordings often need some or a lot of trimming. At least the start and finish.- RockHyraxDec 06, 2023Copper ContributorI can't believe they removed this - given MS's interest in user personas and stories, I really really wish they used this method when considering functionality of their software *smh*
- aerickahSep 22, 2022Brass ContributorTo me, it depends on how much needs to be trimmed off and what is in the trimmed area. If it's something that I don't want users seeing or if it's a lot to trim off, then I would edit outside of Stream and then reupload. If just a little trimming is needed, then the start/end would suffice (and it's better than nothing).
- BHBrookfieldJun 27, 2023Iron ContributorStart / end better than nothing. Agreed. While I'd like editing of parts, just trimming off the delay to open a meeting as well as trimming the end if someone forgets to stop the meeting would be ideal.
