Replace Video function in Stream on SharePoint
TL;DR ... Does the "Replace Video" function exist in Stream on SharePoint? I haven't been able to find it nor any reference to it.
The long story...
In trying to stay current with MS' roadmaps, I'm starting to use Stream on SharePoint more than Stream Classic.
As an Instructional Designer, it's not uncommon for my videos to get published and then updated at a later date. Since I'm embedding these videos as a webpart in the respective SharePoint pages, I'd like to expect that the webpart will always show the most recent video. For that, I need to be able to utilize the "Replace Video" function that currently only seems to exist in Stream Classic.
If the "Replace Video" function doesn't exist in Stream on SharePoint, that's a major hassle, possible even a 'hard stop' for me because the video may be embedded in any number of pages throughout the Enterprise. And the idea of having to go out and find every reference to manually update the webpart is not a very reasonable expectation.
- Like any file in SharePoint/OneDrive, if you upload a new version with the same filename it will prompt you "do you want to Replace?" When you do this, the newly uploaded version becomes the version of the file that's viewable to others.
So, does Stream (on SharePoint) have a "replace" button? No. But you can replace the file easily just as you can with any other file.

this does not seem to work for me with videos that were migrated from Stream Classic. The pop-up dialog that appears when uploading a new file with the same filename as an existing video, only appears when attempting to replace 'true' Stream on SharePoint videos (i.e. videos that have only ever been uploaded to Stream on SharePoint, and were not part of the Stream Classic migration). When trying to replace a video that was migrated over from Stream Classic, the dialog message is slightly different, and only a 'Keep both' button is presented. Is this a known limitation of videos that were migrated over from Stream Classic? And if so, what is the thinking or technical reason behind this? For anyone else who stumbles across this post and is tearing their hair out wondering why the 'Replace' button does not appear, learn from my findings this morning after 2 hours of trial and error / troubleshooting, that if the filename of the file you want to 'Replace' contains certain characters, you will not see a 'Replace' button. For me, it was the letter ' é ' in filenames, causing the pop-up to only show 'Keep both'. Super random, and super frustrating, but at least I've found the culprit!

Welllll...that was embarrassing!
Thanks,
(In my weak defense, I don't think I've ever replaced a file on SharePoint Online. If I needed to change it, I just opened it and made the changes. Can't quite do that with videos, so the whole "upload to replace" has never presented itself to me.
