End of Support for Exchange Summary
Just a summary of some of the important things you might want to know about End of Support for all things Exchange.
Exchange Server 2010 - We pushed the date for the end of extended support from Jan 2020 to October 2020, and announced that here - https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/microsoft-extending-end-of-support-for-exchange-server-2010-to/ba-p/753591
We have no plans to extend that any further, so if you still have Exchange Server 2010 in use - you need to get moving. It won't stop working in October but we won't be releasing any more updates, security or time zone patches.
We also recently posted information to help decommission Exchange 2010 once you have removed all the mailboxes and public folders - https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/best-practices-when-decommissioning-exchange-2010/ba-p/1247559
Exchange Online and Basic Authentication is another important one to know about. We will be turning off Basic Authentication in Exchange Online in the future. If you hadn't heard about this take a look at https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/improving-security-together/ba-p/805892 and that post will provide the background.
What's changed most recently is we extended the timeline, and we talked about that here - https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/basic-authentication-and-exchange-online-april-2020-update/ba-p/1275508 and we added OAuth 2.0 support to IMAP and SMTP AUTH and talked about that here - https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/exchange-team-blog/announcing-oauth-2-0-support-for-imap-and-smtp-auth-protocols-in/ba-p/1330432
Those are the big pieces of news, feel free to ask a question about any of that here, or once we're done, over in the Exchange Community.
