Microsoft Defender ATP Servers Licensing

Hi,

I have gone through the below article but still am confused on the licensing model for servers if I need to onboard them on MDATP.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security/threat-protection/microsoft-defender-atp/minimum-requirements

Suppose I have Microsoft 365 E5 Security license with me, so will I be able to onboard windows server from MDATP Security Center or do I need to get any standalone license just for server. I don't want to go with the Pay-as-you-go model from ASC.

AFAIK, the M365 Security license is for clients only. For servers, you need to standalone license or onboard them to ASC

Thijs Lecomte Yes, that was my understanding as well.

However recently I raised ticket with Microsoft Support to confirm on the same and a guy from the Convergys (Microsoft vendor) who was assigned the ticket told me that licensing for servers will be covered under Volume License pack of M365 E5. Not sure if this is correct.

I would double check with your Microsoft account manager just to be sure.
Otherwise, document that ticket in order to 'cover your **bleep**' later.

I don't think that's correct, but I am not a licensing expert so don't quote me on it
