Unable to add custom template to a custom site content type in Group team site ...

Hello. When I try to 'Upload a new document template' (word document), to a custom content type on my Group team site, I get this error:

"Sorry, you don't have access to this page"

Am I doing something wrong?

In a normal Team Site, I can upload a document template to a custom content type. Therefore, I suspect that it is something peculiar to Group team sites. Odd because I created the Group and am the Site Owner.

Thanks to the following posts / articles, I am now investigating the 'Content Type Hub':

In the hub, I have been able to create a custom content type and upload a custom template. However, it is not available in my Group team site yet - now 30+ minutes ago. And I have read recent comments indicating that this can take hours! In addition, my custom content types are specific to this Group and do not need to be available across all Group team sites - they don't really need to be in the hub.

Any ideas how I can upload my custom template directly into the Site Content Types of my Group team site?

Thanks.

Yeap, this is one of the problems of the Content Type Hub...and also bear in mind that Content Type Hub support to modern team sites is relatively new

        Thanks for the confirmation jcgonzalezmartin.

The content type did eventually appear. Not sure how long it took as we had a long weekend here and I had better things to do than keep checking the hub. :)

Now that I'm reasonably confident that the content hub types will appear in my modern team sites, I have added a number of content types with custom templates and will see how they go.

I have struck one issue with inserting the custom columns into the content type template on the hub but I'll start another thread about that.

  • An Update:

The custom content type has still not appeared in my Group team site - now 2+ hours. Very frustrating! I'm reasonably confident that I have published the content type and told my site to refresh the content types using the steps in this article:

    http://sharepointpals.com/post/An-introduction-to-Content-Type-Hub-in-SharePoint-Office-365

I have also just realised that if I want to upload custom templates to custom content types directly in a site collection, the site collection must be created via the Office 365 SharePoint Admin Centre and not the Office 365 SharePoint (hub) site. The SharePoint hub site now creates the new experience team sites and associated groups etc. Whereas the admin centre creates the older experience team sites.

Also came across this article which just seems to confirm my concerns about the content types hub:

    https://www.petri.com/dear-sharepoint-online-content-types-hub-whats-going

Anyhow, I think I'll go and watch some grass grow - I'm sure that it will be quicker! :)

    Ian.
