Office 365 Group vs Distribution Group recipient limits
Do the Exchange Online recipient limits for Distribution Groups apply to O365 Groups?
Specifically in E3 per https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/servicedescriptions/exchange-online-service-description/exchange-online-limits#receiving-and-sending-limits, the max send is 500 recipients per email. There is a reference to "For distribution groups stored in an organization's address book, the group is counted as one recipient. For distribution groups stored in the Contacts folder of a mailbox, the members of the group are counted individually."
Example 1: Email sent to bob@contoso.com, mary@contoso.com, fred@contoso.com = 3 recipients of 500
Example 2: Email sent to distribution group "All Employees" (members = bob@contoso.com, mary@contoso.com, fred@contoso.com) = 1 recipient of 500 (assuming All Employees is in the 'organization's address book')
Example 3: Email sent to o365 group "All Employees" (members = bob@contoso.com, mary@contoso.com, fred@contoso.com) = 1 recipient of 500
Are the same boundaries in place for sending to O365 Groups?
Yes. For mail flow purposes, you can consider Office 365 Groups equivalent of DGs.
