Office 365 Group vs Distribution Group recipient limits
Do the Exchange Online recipient limits for Distribution Groups apply to O365 Groups?
Specifically in E3 per ExO Send Limits, the max send is 500 recipients per email. There is a reference to "For distribution groups stored in an organization's address book, the group is counted as one recipient. For distribution groups stored in the Contacts folder of a mailbox, the members of the group are counted individually."
Example 1: Email sent to bob@contoso.com, mary@contoso.com, fred@contoso.com = 3 recipients of 500
Example 2: Email sent to distribution group "All Employees" (members = bob@contoso.com, mary@contoso.com, fred@contoso.com) = 1 recipient of 500 (assuming All Employees is in the 'organization's address book')
Example 3: Email sent to o365 group "All Employees" (members = bob@contoso.com, mary@contoso.com, fred@contoso.com) = 1 recipient of 500
Are the same boundaries in place for sending to O365 Groups?
Yes. For mail flow purposes, you can consider Office 365 Groups equivalent of DGs.
