Issues adding guest members to O365 Groups

I'm testing external access in Office 365 groups and experiencing some issues.

First time I tested this the guest accounts received the email, but they didn't have access to the O365 Group after clicking on the link in the email. This is the error message shown to them:

When sharing the O365 group with them via a link, they get this error:

They are shown as members and these are the settings for O365 Groups in the Admin Center:

Tried this with different types of accounts (Microsoft, O365 work, other) and they all get the same experience.

Decided to remove the guest accounts and add them again and for some reason now it works, but I'm facing other issues.

The guest users end up in the SharePoint Site, but the guest with an O365 account is missing the app launcher in this view for some reason:

When I click on "conversations" in the quicklaunch, I'm getting this error:

Refreshing this view shows the external O365 group in the Groups overview on the left for about 0.1 seconds and then it disappears. I was able to create a screenshot though:

Creating a new conversation by using the account of the owner of the O365 Group will result in an email in the inbox of the guest users. Questions I have:

  • Has anyone else experienced the issues I've experienced during my first tests? (no access)
  • Why is the app launcher icon not shown in the group files view, even if the user has O365?
  • Why is the Group Conversations view not working?
  • Why is the external O365 group disappearing from the Groups overview on the left?
  • In regards of your last questions:
    - An external user is not going to access to Group conversations. He / She can only access to the Group files and participate in conversations by means of e-mail
    - An external user is a guest in your tenant, so he/she is not supposed to have access to the App Launcher

Thanks. Surprised that it's not showing the app launcher. I get to see it when accessing a Yammer External Network. Why not add it here as well? Understand now that they expect guests to bookmark the link or find the email to reach the files, which isn't very convenient. It shows up in the Groups overview and then disappears. This is why I thought it wasn't working correctly. They should at least remove the link to conversations from the SharePoint Site. It's only confusing and it gives me different types of errors:

      • Your request can't be completed right now, please try again later (inviting O365 account)
      • Something went wrong. You don't have a mailbox or missing license

I'll share my feedback via uservoice.
