When using CoPilot in Edge What are the Benefits of using Web rather than Work?
- I use it when I do not want work info searched or part of results. I also use it to create images but that will be available in Work soon.
The main benefits of Web mode over Work mode in Copilot for Edge come down to data sources and real-time information. Web mode pulls from current internet data through Bing integration, so you get up-to-date information on topics, news, research, etc. Work mode is limited to your organization's Microsoft 365 data (SharePoint, Teams, emails).
In practice, I use Web mode when clients need current market info, competitor research, or general knowledge that wouldn't be in their M365 tenant. Work mode is better for internal company questions like "find that project document from last month."
One thing to watch - Web mode doesn't have the same data governance controls as Work mode, so be mindful of what you're sharing in prompts. We documented the key differences between Chat, Web, and Work modes here:
