Test Automation for Word ?

Hi everyone,

as a Testing function, we have been asked do we have access to any tools that can be used to automate the testing of changes to our implementation of Word and Templafy.  Unfortunately we don't have such capabilities within our organisation, so I thought I'd ask, what do Microsoft use for their validation of Word at least.  We understand that web application testing tools such as Selenium aren't appropriate from a technical point of view...but there must be options that I'm unaware of.

Are you able to share any articles or knowledge on this subject and give us directions on how we could help our end users ?
