Content Search vs Advance e-discovery result

Trying to trouble shoot for the incomplete email search result issue in advanced discovery, which was later found by doing a Content Search. Why the search result is different when the parameters are the same for both. I am concerned about the completeness of data on advanced discovery. What can cause this?
