Why is password login for microsoft outlook suddenly unavailable?
Cleared my browsers cache because it was causing some issues and when I tried to log back into hotmail it says password login is not available. Completely randomly with no warning.

Clearing Chrome’s cache removed the existing sign-in session, but it would not disable your Microsoft account password. The message means Microsoft requires another sign-in path or has detected an account condition that must be resolved. On the sign-in page, choose Sign-in options or Other ways to sign in and use a registered email, phone, Authenticator approval, passkey, or security key. If none is available, run Microsoft’s account Sign-in Helper using the Hotmail address; it checks whether the account is blocked, passwordless, or needs recovery. Avoid repeated password attempts, because they can extend a temporary lock. Test the Microsoft account page in a fresh browser session, not only Outlook.com. If two-step verification is enabled and no registered verification method is accessible, Microsoft support cannot bypass that protection. Once access returns, review Security, remove obsolete methods, add two independent methods, and confirm a password is still configured.

Hello,
If clearing the browser cache and cookies was the only change made, one possibility is that your Microsoft account is currently expecting a different sign-in method instead of a password.
Microsoft accounts can be configured for passwordless sign-in, in which case you may see messages such as "Password sign-in isn't available" and be prompted to use Microsoft Authenticator, a security key, SMS verification, or another authentication method instead.
You could clarify :
- Do you still see a password field ?
- What is the exact message displayed ?
- If you select "Sign in another way", which options are offered ?
Based on Microsoft-documented cases, this behavior can be related to a passwordless account configuration, a temporary account restriction, or an identity verification issue.
If you can still access the account through another sign-in method, you can review your security settings here :

Also, if the issue started recently, it may be worth checking the Microsoft service status page :

Hope this helps
