Not seeing sent messages in conversation view of an account you have read & manage rights

I have a few people with read & manage access to their boss's inbox and they view the messages in conversation view but they can't see his replies in that view.  They can by going to sent folder but not altogether like they can with their own inbox.  Is this possible?  I tried with a test account and can't see in conversation view either on that account.
