MS Exchange stopped working on mac

My work account stopped working on mac Mail. I signed out and tried signing in again but I got the attached error. I tried signing in to exchange with Canary Mail on mac but not succeeding there either. Not sure whether the problem is from MS, mac, or my workplace's new 2-step authentication procedure.

    If your workplace has a new 2-step authentication procedure for access to your mailbox, I would suggest checking with the IT team of your workplace who has set up the new procedure as this could certainly cause issues during sign-in via possibly a legacy connection configuration.

    If they migrated the mailbox to Microsoft 365 / Exchange Online, this connection configuration with specifying the external URL is deprecated. Add a new account in the mail app, choose Exchange, but don't use the manual configuration, only specifying the email address as this would redirect you to the modern authentication via your Microsoft 365 work account.

    Removing and re-adding the Exchange account in Mac Mail restores the connection.
