Mail Enabled Security Groups

I have come across multiple clients who state that they choose to create a mail enable security group rather a distribution group in Active Directory, to prevent  Group Duplications. Is it the same case in your organization too? Or there are some alternative practices you are opting to do towards you Active Directory Group Management?
