- Jul 16, 2024You can remove the on-premises Exchange server, but you will need to use PowerShell to manage all the mail-related attributes. The details are documented here, including details on if the scenario will work for your organisation: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/exchange/manage-hybrid-exchange-recipients-with-management-tools

Hi Tae
My mail flow already routed to Exchane Online, I tried shut down the Exchange Online and the result when user was syncing to M365 from Active Directory it have an mailbox with domain ****@onmicrosoft.com instead of my organization's domain name. Because there are attributes are managed by Exchange On-Premise

1. Is the account created in On-Premise Active Directory only for Exchange Server?
2. Does the account created in On-Premise Active Directory also use the user's PC as a domain environment?

Hi AnnTaeYoun
1. The accounts have been created in AD and synced to M365. Before I used Exchange Server to manage mailboxes for those accounts. After I have migrated those mailboxes to Exchange Online, it means we are running a Hybrid Environment.
2. Yes

If mail flow is routed to the Exchange Online environment,
You don't need to create a mailbox in Exchange Server.
There is no menu to create mailboxes in Exchange Online.
If you check the license in the account synchronized with M365, a mailbox is automatically created.
You can also shut down Exchange Server if you are no longer using it.- Parker0105Jul 15, 2024Copper ContributorHi TAE_YOUN_ANN
Thanks for your reply
But I'm still hesitant about Microsoft's article, they recommend keeping Exchange Server as it relates to the atributes which only mannage by Exchange Server
