Exchange Server Outlook Inbox Search not working

Have tried rebuilding indexes on client outlook. Does not allow a search of inbox but other directories like deleted and sent the search works.  Have rebuilt the exchange server index several times, results are the same.  Is there an update that could have affected the server?

I have this issue on a couple of computers after upgrading a bunch of them from Office 2007 to 2021. Does not appear to be related to the 5008212 update snafu. Only some users have the problem, others are fine. No results found at all unless they switch to current folder or all outlook items, then it finds them all. Have tried all the reg settings (disable server assisted search, preventindexingoutlook. . .) as well as rebuilding index, new outlook profile (will work for a short while but then stops..) Outlook does not give the message about no results found would you like to search on the server. . Test-exchangesearch succeeds on server .Disabling cached mode in outlook exchange account seems to be a work-around.. Also I just discovered that a different windows user profile on the same machine does not have the problem, including in an outloook profile with an exchange account that did have it under the other user profile, Sounding like something corrupted in the user profile or settings? I have a case open with MS (supposedly, has been a month getting passed around. . .) and will report back if I get something useful out of them.

Do you know if there is any kind of fix other than backing out the update that caused the behavior? Does anyone know which update to exchange server, active directory or IiS it is?
