Exchange Online Restricts the Number of Dynamic Distribution Groups

We are a large enterprise customer of Microsoft with over 8000 DDGs currently in Exchange Online. I'm quite amazed that MS have introduced this restriction with so little warning or consideration for it's existing large scale customers.
The education sector also pushes boundaries, not because they're necessarily big and/or complex, but simply because the formula of [standardised implementation] x [number of schools] quickly sees resources consumed.
