There is a gap / overlay covering the URL bar in stable release 140
With some users the overlay is transparent.
The issue seems to be triggered by typing in the URL bar before the homepage is loaded. A second Edge browser that is opened does not have the issue.
Hi Everyone! I received confirmation the fix is included and the Release Notes for v140.0.3485.81 were updated to add the fix. Microsoft Edge release notes for Stable Channel | Microsoft Learn
Thanks!

Thanks Kelly_Y . We have now submitted the feedback from one user. It is happening to lots of our staff, independent of Windows 10 and Windows 11. It started with Stable release 140.

Kelly_Y Organisation of 500 users here. All affected by this bug this week. Beta version is also affected. Had to roll back to v139. We logged via Edge feedback and logged ticket via M365 Support and told our enterprise rep. Still has not been acknowledged by MS as a known issue. Appreciate if you could get that page updated to reflect issue and escalate a fix.

I have the same issue. Edge is managed in our organization to navigate to our intranet page instead of empty page. If I await the page to appear then everything is normal. But if I click on the address bar and start to type before the intranet page is loaded I get this black rectangle that covers the address bar from now on. On every tab! So I need to close Edge completely to recover
