Hi Everyone! I received confirmation the fix is included and the Release Notes for v140.0.3485.81 were updated to add the fix. Microsoft Edge release notes for Stable Channel | Microsoft Learn
Thanks!

jsavage-work jmsoulsby678 Thank you both! The team is working on a fix and I'll follow up once it is available.

The fix has been released to Microsoft Edge Canary Channel versions 142.0.3562.0+.
jmsoulsby678 jsavage-work - If you can test on Edge Canary let me know if the issue is fixed. We are also working on backporting to the other channels and will let you know when it is available. Thanks!

Kelly_Y Confirming I am not able to reproduce issues in Version 142.0.3566.0 (Official build) canary (64-bit).
I am getting another test user to validate in dark mode.
The only concern I have is that we need to run with CVEs unpatched whilst waiting for the v142 stable channel release. Any expedition of the stable release would be appreciated.

Kelly_Y That is great news. Seeing that stable release version 142 is scheduled for late October, if I am correct, we look forward to the backporting to other channels as well. It has a real impact on many of our users and 6 weeks is a while to wait.
As far as testing with Edge Canary, I will see what I can do. The thing is that not all of our users are impacted... I am not for instance. So can you give me insight either here or via email as to how we can best reproduce and test the fix?- Kelly_YSep 18, 2025
Microsoft
jmsoulsby678 These are the steps to reproduce that we were able to collect from customers and used during our investigations.
- Set a website (e.g., https://example.com) in IE mode and as startup URL.
- Launch Edge, let the site begin loading.
- Start typing in the address bar before the page fully loads.
- Observe grey/black bar overlaying the address bar, the div can also appear to be black it is based on the appearance of the browser, grey if light mode is set and black if dark mode is set.
- Issue observed with Google, Bing and Yahoo set to be the search engine in the address bar.

Thanks Kelly_Y Our helpdesk can confirm the above as far as steps. I still cannot reproduce it myself and not all our employees are effected (and they all have version 140).
I conclude that there are other influences causing the issue. A manager recently Windows Updates on his laptop yesterday and after the reboot the issue did not reappear.
I also want to clarify that the grey/black bar overlaying the address bar is sometimes a 'hole' in the Edge browser. You can click through to the application behind the Edge window.
Thanks again for your coordinating efforts.
