Why was web select removed from Microsoft Edge?

This was the major feature distinguishing it from Chrome. It was usually the main argument for switching I used with colleagues and friends.

This was hands down the best feature! RIP web select

I just discovered this also and I'm VERY disappointed.
As you say, this stand-out feature is (well, was) the only reason I use Edge over Chrome.
I use it daily to grab and copy from a heavy JS web console to spreadsheet, and there's no workaround for me. Really, really REALLY unhappy with this move.

I know it; I still try to use it like 3 times a day. Agree on being a differentiator from Chrome.

I am also pretty unhappy about this. It's very difficult to copy text on most websites without also triggering an unwanted action.

Hey, you must have mistaken brother. It is not removed. Since Microsoft is launching so many features and keeping it in right click menu, it has to merge something. You will see web select on the top when you click on web capture and then you can use it. Seems like the problem is solved. Have a great day!

Brian256 I am talking about web select, not web capture. Even the shortcut Ctrl+Shift+X doesn't work. It was even announced in changelog: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/deployedge/microsoft-edge-relnote-stable-channel

Deprecation of Web Select. To improve end user experience, this feature is being deprecated and will no longer be an option under Web Capture or via keyboard shortcut.

It's working in mine. I am using it.
I think there is some error. I am using it perfectly fine.
        Ctrl+Shift+X is working fine.
So is the right click web select(after you click on web capture).
        Seems there is some error.
        Hope it gets fixed soon.
